The Fixing Session No One Is Watching

May 3, 2026

The daily benchmark fixings receive little attention from most readers, yet they remain a reference point for how a great deal of physical and institutional business actually prices.

Why the benchmark matters

Because so many contracts and physical deals settle against these references, the fixing process can carry more practical weight than its low profile suggests. For operators, understanding how a benchmark is set is often more relevant than the intraday tick-by-tick.

None of this implies the fixings are predictive. The point is narrower: knowing where and how price is referenced helps when timing decisions around it.
